I don’t normally write personal posts on my blog but maybe there’s someone out there who needs to hear my story. Here it goes.
This morning I woke up and took Cheerwine on a walk to the dog park. I stopped by Express Yourself Barista Bar for a cup of coffee and chatted with my favorite barista about a cookie exchange I’m attending tonight. He suggested I make strawberry cheesecake cookies.
Cheerwine and I left the shop and walked through the streets of Bushwick as I admired the street art. At the dog park I chatted with Bunny’s owner. He suggested I make chocolate, coconut and sea salt cookies. We also talked about my upcoming trip to Thailand and his trip involving trekking through the Amazon.
Then he asked me this question, “What do you do exactly that allows you to come to the dog park at different hours every day?” I told him about my business and making the move to New York City. Turns out he’s been noticing my interesting schedule because he also has one — he’s a freelance yoga instructor and piano teacher.
I left the dog park feeling fulfilled this morning. It’s amazing to me how I’ve already built up this “life” in my neighborhood. Moving to Brooklyn was probably the best decision I’ve ever made. I wake up happy each morning and ready to take on the world. I feel like I can tackle anything and the city has made me stronger. Although I enjoy exploring something new in the city each day, it’s nice to have those familiar comforts — like a dog park, coffee and friends.
I’ve met some of the most amazing people in the city and accomplished things I never dreamed would happen. I also have discovered the importance of old friends and family — they keep you sane and support you in all decisions.
If you’re debating on making a change in your life, now is the time. Moving is invigorating and challenging. You’ll discover new things about yourself and become confident.
I’ll leave you with one of my favorite quotes by Jerry Seinfeld: “To me, if life boils down to one thing, it’s movement. To live is to keep moving.”
Make a change — move, travel or just explore. Your life will suddenly become more fulfilling.

You know I feel you, girl. We’re still looking for the right spot to find our familiars, but moving to the Bay Area is doing all the refreshing I needed it to.
Exactly. It’s definitely a refreshing experience to move. I’m so glad you made the move to SF!
Very well said. Trying new and sometimes scary things give your life’s downtimes much more meaning. Taking a trip to a new part of the planet gives new perspective to where/what you call home.
Cheers and enjoy Thailand
Thank you so much, Reed. I hope you have a wonderful day!
